VR To Hall Sensor Converter

$18.50

The VR to Hall Sensor Converter provides a simple and cost-effective solution to connect a variable reluctance (VR) sensor to a hall effect sensor input on your ECU/ECM/PCM, speedometer, nitrous/boost/methanol controller, or any other device requiring a 0-5V pulsed speed or position signal.  Simply connect 5V power, ground, and a VR sensor to the circuit board and it will output a 5V DC square wave with a frequency that exactly matches that of the AC signal created by the VR sensor.  A compact design allows the modules to be easily protected with heat-shrink tubing and concealed within a wiring harness.

Like our Speed Sensor Adapter V2, the VR to Hall Sensor Converter utilizes the Maxim MAX9924 chip which is specifically designed for position and speed sensing on automotive crankshafts, camshafts, transmission shafts, etc.  Unlike the Speed Sensor Adapter V2, however, these modules cannot be connected to a 12V power source and are not able to convert signals from 2-wire hall type ABS sensors.

INSTALLATION NOTE:
The MAX9924 chip is extremely sensitive to supply voltage and powering the MAX9924 with more than 6V for any amount of time will render the chip inoperable.  To prevent unexpected failure the VR To Hall Sensor Converter should share a ground connection with the 5V regulator used to power the converter.  If an arbitrary ground source is used then ground offsets may damage the converter at some point in time.  The 5V output on Holley ECUs has proven to be particularly problematic – we do not recommend supplying the converter with 5V or ground from any Holley ECU.  If you are unsure about the quality of your 5V supply we recommend purchasing the Speed Sensor Adapter V2 instead.
